CDOT expects busy Labor Day weekend traffic

(COLORADO) — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is reminding drivers to expect heavier traffic in many areas of the state due to the events and activities taking place over the Labor Day weekend.

CDOT said starting at noon on Friday, Aug. 30 CDOT would be suspending all non-emergency construction projects to reduce potential traffic delays. Projects will resume their regular schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

According to CDOT, heavier than normal traffic should be expected over the weekend along the Front Range and on I-70 west of Denver. CDOT said traffic on I-70 is at its peak primarily from mid-morning until early evening on Friday, and from early morning to mid-afternoon on Saturday. Eastbound I-70 traffic will be at its highest on Labor Day from mid-morning to late afternoon.

Labor Day weekend is the final weekend for travel on CO-5 to the top of Mount Blue Sky. CO-5 to the summit is scheduled to close Sept. 3 through all of 2025 due to construction.

CDOT offers alternatives for those who would rather not drive. Bustang, Bustang Outrider, and Pegasus serve areas around Colorado. More information can be found on www.ridebustang.com
