Charlie Kirk, conservative influencer, shot during event in Utah: organization

(NEXSTAR) — Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was shot while speaking at an event at a Utah college, the organization he co-founded has confirmed to the Associated Press.

His condition was not immediately available, but a spokesperson told Fox News it was “unknown.”

Shots were reportedly fired at Utah Valley University while Kirk was speaking, according to authorities. Nexstar’s KTVX reports the university issued an alert warning that a suspect is in custody and police are investigating. No additional details were immediately available.

“I am tracking the situation at Utah Valley University closely. Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk and the students gathered there,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said in a post to X around 2:35 p.m. ET.

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance shared similar remarks, both asking for prayers for Kirk on Truth Social and X, respectively.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also released a statement, saying, “The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.”
