City marks completion of 2C road project on Vickers Dr.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Local leaders gathered on Thursday, Aug. 22 to celebrate the completion of a portion of the 2C-funded road improvement project on Vickers Drive in northeast Colorado Springs.

2C is a voter-approved sales tax, serving as the main source for rebuilding and improving the condition of the City’s existing roadway infrastructure. It was first approved by voters in November 2015 and renewed in 2019. The current authorization sunsets in December 2025.

According to the City, since the 2C program started in 2016, the number of roads in “good” condition has nearly doubled and the number of citizen pothole complaints has gone down by more than 34%.

On Thursday, Mayor Yemi Mobolade joined Corey Farkas, the Public Works Operations & Maintenance Division Manager, to mark the completion of a vital road improvement project and discuss the impacts for drivers and the community.

“This project, this 2C Project, is all about supporting our community. I believe that good roads are the staple for a great city,” said Mayor Mobolade. “They’re the pathway to education. They’re the networks of commerce, and they’re the connection between families and their neighborhoods.”

As of June, the 2C Project has allowed crews to repave more than 1,600 lane miles and replace more than 4 million square feet of sidewalk in the city.
