Colorado man found dead at Grand Canyon National Park

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — A man from Southern Colorado died on a river trip at the Grand Canyon over the weekend, and the National Park Service (NPS) has released his identity.

On Saturday morning, Sept. 7 at around 5:30 a.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a death at Poncho’s Kitchen, near river mile 13 along the Colorado River.

Park rangers responded and found the victim, identified as 59-year-old Patrick Horton of Salida, at the scene. According to NPS, Horton was on the 10th day of a non-commercial river trip along the Colorado River and was discovered by members of his party.

NPS said it is still investigating along with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office in Arizona.
