Colorado Renaissance Festival makes historic change after pirate weekend sellout

DENVER (KDVR) — For the first time ever, the Colorado Renaissance Festival sold out of tickets, and that has led the event’s organizers to make some changes.

Organizers said that during the July 12-13 weekend — which bore the Pirate Invasion theme — the festival sold out. It’s unclear how many tickets that entailed, but the organizers said that ticket sales will be limited for the rest of the year.

“This decision was made to preserve the overall experience for all guests, ensuring more space, shorter lines, and smoother traffic flow throughout the village and surrounding areas,” the event stated on its website on Sunday.

What do sale caps mean for Renaissance Festival guests?

The biggest change that guests will see is a cap on online ticket sales. However, tickets will still be available through participating King Soopers’ locations and at the festival’s box office while supplies last.

“Any tickets already purchased remain valid and will be accepted on any remaining weekend this season,” the festival said online.

The organizers said that anyone planning to attend who has not yet purchased tickets should do so early, as there are now daily ticket sale capacities and once reached, no further sales will be made that day.

Current ticket availability can be found on the event’s website, coloradorenaissance.com.

Festival organizers pointed to the rising popularity of the Colorado Renaissance Festival.

“We feel for the overall experience of our Guests it is important to limit the amount of attendees, which will create more space, shorter lines and ease traffic,” the festival’s organizers wrote.

For the past several years, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has issued guidance for motorists headed to the festival, directing them to stay on Interstate 25 and out of the residential areas at the repeated request of residents.

The final weekend of the Colorado Renaissance Festival is scheduled for Aug. 2-3.
