Colorado Springs’ final Parking and Curb Management Plan released

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs has released its final Parking and Curb Management Plan that provides potential strategies and tactics to support the business community and visitors.

The Parking System Enterprise provides public parking spaces as a key element in maintaining the economic vitality of the downtown area. The plan aims to manage the curbside, increase off-street parking productivity, embrace and leverage technology, and create a comprehensive customer experience through strategy and specific tactics to improve and enhance the City’s parking options.

“This plan provides the Parking Enterprise with a framework to consider possible short- and long-term projects that provide increased access to businesses and institutions, for residents and visitors,” said Alyssa Alt, the City’s Parking Enterprise Manager. “Of course, all of these possible projects are budget dependent as we strategically deploy the Enterprise’s financial resources in support of economic vitality in Downtown and Old Colorado City.”

The plan provides a framework for understanding the state of the Enterprise managed parking system while also detailing future parking and curb use improvements. The plan further details where to find parking downtown and the different kinds. During the plan, four takeaways were found:

Actively Manage the Curbside

Increase off-street parking productivity

Embrace Leverage Technology

Create a comprehensive customer experience

The 10-month process for the plan found that some items in it had already been implemented, such as changing parking enforcement to reflect use, offering free off-street parking, or parking in City-owned facilities.

The plan also said the City will continue to monitor the amount of parking provided. To check out the full report, click the link above.
