According to the Owner and Chef Suwanna Meyer, the incident happened around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and she told FOX21 News, that luckily there were no customers or staff in the dining room at the time.

In a post on Facebook, Chef Meyer gave a glimpse into the major damages to Chaang Thai, which is located at 7525 North Academy Boulevard near the Chapel Hills area. One video showed the vehicle with its hazards on after the driver crashed into the restaurant.

Videos also showed that the front doors to the eatery were destroyed and glass was seen shattered just about everywhere. Wooden tables inside were also damaged.

In one of the last videos shared on Facebook, the SUV was seen being towed out of the restaurant, and officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) were investigating.

“The driver was cited on scene, I believe for reckless driving,” wrote Caitlin Ford, CSPD’s Sr. Public Communications Specialist. “I don’t believe alcohol or drugs are a factor.” There were also no injuries, according to Ford.

Chef Meyer said it’s unknown how long Chaang Thai will be closed for repairs.

“We will let you know when we will open as soon as we clean up everything and prepare the dining room for you,” wrote Chef Meyer on Facebook. “Be safe out there. We look forward to cooking delicious meals for you soon.”

In the meantime, Chef Meyer said customers can visit Chaang Thai’s sister restaurant, Elephant Thai, located at 4703 North Academy Boulevard.
