(COLORADO SPRINGS) — At a regular meeting on Aug. 6, 2025, the Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education accepted Director Lauren Nelson’s resignation. This prompted the Board to announce that it will need a new member to fill Nelson’s vacant seat.
According to the official announcement from the District 11 Board of Education, candidate qualifications are outlined as:
Have been a registered elector residing within District 11 boundaries for at least 12 consecutive months before the appointment date;
Have not been convicted of a sexual offense against a child;
Have not been convicted of a felony; and
Have not served two consecutive terms on the District 11 Board ending within the last four years.
The Board has also provided a timeline for anyone interested in the application and appointment:
August 7: Application materials available on the District 11 website
August 13, 4:00 pm: Orientation Meeting at the D11 Administration Building
August 14, by 5:00 pm: Deadline to Submit Materials

August 20, 4:00 pm: Board Work Session – Candidate interviews and discussion
August 27, 4:00 pm: Special Board Meeting – Appointment decision
The above materials should be given to the Board of Education Specialist, Melisa Olsen, at 1115 North El Paso Street in Colorado Springs.
If chosen, the appointed candidate will serve until a new director is voted in on Nov. 4, 2025, during the regular school election.
