(COLORADO) — Each May, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) commemorates the patrol members lost in the line of duty with a moving memorial.
During the month of May, CSP wraps seven cruisers with the names of the 30 patrol members lost in the line of duty. The drivers of the cruisers remain on patrol and attend special events and ceremonies, including community events, parades, graduations, and award ceremonies.
May is the time of year for National Police Week, proclaimed in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy with May 15 proclaimed as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. The calendar week of May 15 is when National Police Week occurs.
On Friday, May 2, an annual ceremony hosted by CSP will be held at the CSP Training Academy located at 15055 South Golden Road in Golden, starting at 10 a.m. The ceremony will add three names of Colorado law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2023 and 2024, along with two historical names. The public is invited to the ceremony.
