COS Airport offers solutions for holiday parking

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Tis the season for holiday travel, and the Colorado Springs Airport (COS) expects to see more than 100,000 passengers the week of Christmas. The airport said it’s prepared to accommodate everyone parking on site before their flight.

Even with so much available parking, holiday travelers still have a hard time finding a spot. It’s no secret that Colorado Springs is growing quickly, and with a record number of holiday travelers expected this year, the COS Airport is seeing growing pains.

“There’s not a lot of parking, they are short on Park Spot so it makes it hard,” said traveler Monica Garner. “You might drive into the airport and not find a spot.”

The night before Thanksgiving, the Airport’s long term parking was completely full, forcing the Airport to open its overflow lot to add additional parking. The airport said it is working to find ways to grow with the community.

We have had discussions about potential parking options, whether it’s building more lots or a covered parking or a parking structure,” said Dana Schield, Public Communications Specialist at COS Airport. “There’s not anything in the immediate future that’s planned.”

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recommends getting to the airport two hours early to find a spot and get through security. Starting Dec. 20, COS Airport is offering a 50% discount on long term larking through Jan. 2.
