(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Two local fire departments will be sending crews out to Southern California to battle the fires that have taken the lives of ten and left hundreds without homes.
On Wednesday, Jan. 10, the Stratmoor Hills Fire District announced four firefighters had been deployed to assist in the wildfires that have engulfed thousands of acres in California on fire. The fire district said Engine Boss John Ortiz, Engine Boss Trainee Jenniffer Sampson, Firefighter Type 1 Trainee A.J. Patalano, and Firefighter Type 2 Sam Allison were a part of 1600 Engine 418, which was deployed.
“We pray for a safe journey, and a successful fire fight!,” the fire district wrote on Facebook. “Godspeed!”
Stratmoor Hills Fire District said the group of four was assigned to the Eaton Fire, which currently stands at 13,956 acres and 3% containment. The fire is near the Angeles National Forest. California is currently battling several other fires, including the Palisades Fire which has burned 20,438 acres, the Hurst Fire, the Kenneth Fire, and Creek Fire.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is also sending a four-person crew to help battle the fires near Los Angeles.
CSFD said that the group would depart on Friday, Jan. 10 at around noon.
