(COLORADO) — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has placed trailer restrictions on multiple main roads, including I-25 due to treacherous winter conditions.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, CDOT will begin restricting vehicles with any types of trailers from traveling on various roads, including:
US I-70 in both directions from Golden (Mile Point 259) to Silverthorne (MP 205).
US 285 in both directions from Morrison (MP 250) to Fairplay (MP 184)
US 40 in both directions from Winter Park (MP 234) to Empire (MP 256)
US 6 in both directions from Keystone (MP 217) to Empire (MP 229)
I-25 in both directions from South of Plum Creek Pkwy (MP 180) to North Academy Boulevard (MP 150).
These restrictions are designed to reduce the chances of semi truck and other impactful spinouts that require extensive manpower and specialized equipment to clear, and often prolonged closures of the interstate.
Snow is expected across the high country and the eastern plains. According to the FOX21 Storm team, snow will be heavy at times over Southern Colorado into Friday night, Nov. 8.
Travel into the mountains will be hazardous. CDOT said the winter storm’s impacts are expected to reach Mt. Vernon Canyon around sunset and traveling in the area will be dangerous.
Motorists should try to travel between the Front Range and the mountains before these conditions arrive in the late afternoon or after the storm passes on Saturday.
