CSFD crew deploying to Elk Creek Fire

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is deploying a crew of four to assist with the Elk Creek Fire currently burning in Meeker, Colorado.

On Sunday, Aug. 3, CSFD received a request from the Colorado Mutual Aid System (CMAS) to respond to the fire that broke out in Rio Blanco County, southeast of Meeker.

“CSFD Brush 3 (a type 6 wildland brush truck) with a crew of 4 are headed to the fire to assist,” CSFD wrote via Facebook.

As of Sunday, Aug. 3, the fire stood at 2000 acres. According to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was caused by lightning, and evacuation orders were issued for County Road 8 from Mile Marker 11 to Mile Marker 16. Individuals are asked to stay out of the area to ensure their safety.


Polis declares emergency for Elk Creek Fire, evacuations ordered

Also on Sunday, Governor Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency for the fire.
