CSFD: Six dogs rescued from house fire, kitten dies

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Six dogs had to be treated with oxygen for smoke inhalation after a house fire in southeast Colorado Springs on Wednesday, July 31. Sadly, one kitten died in the fire.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1400 block of Yosemite Drive, in a neighborhood southeast of Highway 24 and South Circle Drive.

CSFD said crews found a small fire, and six dogs had to be treated for smoke inhalation. Three of the dogs were in very poor condition after the rescue, CSFD said, though thankfully all three had regained consciousness and were doing much better when CSFD posted about the rescue on social media. Sadly, one kitten died in the fire.

CSFD said the fire was quickly extinguished. CSFD did not specify how badly the home was damaged, or if the inhabitants would be displaced.

CSFD receiving animal life-saving equipment

In April, FOX21 News reported that CSFD had received oxygen mask kits made specifically for animals, thanks to a generous donation by the Fire Foundation of Colorado Springs and West Side Animal Hospital. Those kits may very well have saved several lives on Wednesday, thanks to the quick thinking and compassionate actions of our local fire crews.
