(COLORADO) — As of Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) has several members of the Wildland Team deployed to assist with the wildfires burning on the Western Slope, including the Lee and Elk Fires near Meeker and the Turner Gulch Fire in Mesa County.
According to CSFD, three team members are assigned to structure protection near the Lee and Elk Fires, and they are helping to take care of animals on evacuated properties. The firefighters saved multiple structures from burning, and one team member is assigned as a Community Liaison to ensure locals have the information they need.
CSFD stated that four team members are in Mesa County to assist with the Turner Gulch Fire and are assigned to structure protection and initial attack responsibilities for any new fires that pop up in the area.
According to CSFD, the deployments are “a powerful reminder of how communities come together in times of need.”
Every time CSFD teams step up to support our neighbors, they lend their skills and strength while building relationships with other fire departments. This allows for learning new strategies and gaining experience that directly benefits Colorado Springs by helping keep the city safer and more resilient, according to CSFD.
