CSP: No threat found after package with ‘unknown substance’ sent to Colorado representative

DENVER (KDVR) — No threat was detected after staff at the Colorado Capitol discovered an “unknown substance” in a package sent to a state representative on Friday.

According to a release from the Colorado State Patrol, the package arrived just after 10 a.m. and was sent to Representative Junie Joseph’s office.

A staff aide opened the package and discovered the “unknown substance” inside.

Authorities spoke to the person who sent the package and CSP said they “indicated no threat.”

A CSP hazardous materials team responded and tested the substance. CSP said it brought back a presumptive result of negative and no threat was immediately detected.

Rep Joseph’s office was temporarily closed but has since reopened. CSP said regular business at the Capitol was not disrupted.
