CSP: Part of HWY 24 closed due to Trooper-involved crash

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) reported a Trooper was involved in a crash while transporting a vehicle on Sunday, Jan. 19.

At around 4:48 p.m. on Sunday, a Colorado State Trooper was involved in a crash with a Toyota Prius, while transporting an individual in custody. The crash occurred on Highway 24 on Marksheffel Road, near State Highway 94.

The individual in custody had been arrested on a warrant from a previous traffic stop. The Prius only had one occupant, the driver.

According to CSP, the Trooper was taken to the hospital as a precaution and the individual in custody was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Prius refused to be taken to the hospital.

The crash remains an active investigation, and the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team is investigating the crash.

Highway 24 westbound remains closed at Newt Drive, eastbound Highway 24 is open.
