CSPD: 18-year-old facing charges in murder of teen

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection to the homicide of a 17-year-old on South Chelton Road in November.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), 18-year-old Mykael Weathington was taken into custody on first degree murder charges in connection to the shooting death of a 17-year-old on the southeast side of Colorado Springs.

Officers originally responded to the 1900 block of South Chelton Road just after 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the 17-year-old dead. The victim’s identity has not been released due to their age.

CSPD said Weathington was arrested on Dec. 6 by the CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit and the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force. This was the 38th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been 30 homicides.
