CSPD: Arrest made after alleged burglars ran over victim

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An arrest has been made in a burglary turned vehicular assault in January, in which a suspect ran over the victim while driving away.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers responded to a burglary from a car on Jan. 19, in which the victim confronted the suspect while he was stealing items from her car. As the suspect drove away, CSPD said he pointed a gun at the victim and ran her over with his truck, leaving visible tire marks on her body.

Video surveillance was recovered of the incident, which CSPD said showed the bottom half of the suspect’s truck. Officers also gathered specific details about the truck from the victim.

The following day, on Jan. 20, officers were actively looking for the truck when they spotted one matching the description parked in front of an apartment complex. After discovering the truck had been reported stolen, officers set up surveillance.

CSPD said officers contacted a male suspect as he was attempting to get in the truck, and during questioning, another man walked out of a nearby apartment. Officers then drafted a search warrant for the apartment. Inside, officers discovered approximately 10 people, most of whom CSPD said had outstanding warrants.

In addition, some of the victim’s stolen property was recovered from the stolen truck. During an interview with the Assault Unit, one of the people admitted to hitting the victim.

CSPD commended Officers J. Christiansen and R. Gillis for their dedication to solving the case.
