CSPD: Carjacking suspect forced driver to high speeds before Northgate crash

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A suspect has been arrested after he allegedly forced a carjacking victim to drive at high speeds on I-25 before a rollover crash in the Northgate neighborhood, where the suspect ran to an unlocked home and called an accomplice to help him escape.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), shortly after 11 a.m. on April 16, officers responded to a rollover crash at the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Old Northgate Road. When police arrived, they learned that 40-year-old Charles Jackson had run from the crash scene and into a nearby neighborhood, where he entered an unlocked home and called for a ride.

CSPD said Jackson had allegedly carjacked the driver of the car in the area of Chelton Road and South Academy Boulevard and forced them to drive recklessly around Colorado Springs. He allegedly forced the driver to high speeds on I-25, and it eventually crashed into another car in Northgate. Jackson then escaped.

On Wednesday, April 30, CSPD said the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force got a lead on a possible location for Jackson. A search warrant was obtained, and the El Paso County SWAT Team assisted in executing the warrant.

Jackson was arrested without incident and taken to the El Paso County Jail following an interview at the Police Operations Center.
