(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) drone pilot helped to track down a domestic violence suspect after he allegedly tried running from police.
Around 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, CSPD received a call from a family member of a woman who was actively involved in a domestic violence situation. When officers arrived at the home in the 2700 block of Marcy Avenue, just off of South Circle Drive, they were able to get the woman and her children out of the house safely.
According to CSPD, the boyfriend/suspect involved in the incident, 28-year-old Jerry Maclin, was heard shouting suicidal and homicidal statements, and the woman informed officers that Maclin had previously made comments about committing “suicide by cop.”
While trying to put together a plan to arrest Maclin, a CSPD drone pilot spotted him running from the back of the house. Police chased Maclin through the neighborhood, and when he did not comply with orders to stop, Tactical Enforcement Unit officers fired pepper ball rounds to bring him in.
CSPD said Maclin faces several charges, including Assault, Harassment, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Resisting Arrest.
