(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) K9 and her handler have been selected to help with security at the Super Bowl for the second year in a row.
K9 Donut and her handler, Officer Rodney Biechler, will head to Las Vegas in February to assist in making sure all attendees and staff are safe at this year’s big game. They were also selected to attend Super Bowl LVII in 2023.
K9 Donut is an explosives detection dog and has been working with CSPD since January of 2023. She and Officer Biechler work in CSPD’s Colorado Springs Airport Unit keeping travelers and employees of the airport safe.
K9 Donut is a 6-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer. When she isn’t working, she loves to play with her tennis ball and run, and run, and run some more, CSPD said.
Once on the job at Super Bowl LVIII, K9 Donut and her handler will work with teams selected from across the country to keep the event safe.
“CSPD is extremely proud of the great work that K9 Donut and Officer Biechler do for our community and those traveling in and out of it every day,” CSPD said in a press release. “We are excited that they will be taking that service and excellence to Las Vegas and the Super Bowl.”
