(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Friday, Aug. 30, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a report of shots fired near East San Miguel Street and North Academy Boulevard. The man who called in the report said he discharged a gun in his apartment.

CSPD said when officers arrived at the apartment around 11:15 a.m., they found the man, 24-year-old William Cochell, and detained him. The investigation revealed he had fired a round through his stove, the wall, and into the hallway of the apartment complex.

According to CSPD, officers took the Cochell into custody and searched the apartment to find the firearm involved in the incident. While searching, suspicious items were found that required the Regional Explosives Unit to respond and the occupants of the apartment to be evacuated.

The Explosives Unit determined that the area was safe and allowed people to return to their homes. CSPD reported that Cochell was subsequently booked into jail.
