CSPD: Man found sleeping in car next to meth drives into ditch

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Police arrested a man who was found sleeping with drugs in his car and also ran into a ditch.

On Friday, May 16, at around 2:53 a.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers were conducting policing around the area of 3600 Jeannine Drive, near Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway, when they located a “suspicious vehicle.” When officers approached the car, they saw a man sleeping in the driver’s seat, with drug-related items in the passenger compartment.

As officers began to give the suspect verbal commands to exit the vehicle, the man woke up, started the vehicle, placed it in drive, and crashed into a nearby drainage ditch.

Once the car was disabled, the man complied with the commands and was placed into custody. During a search of the vehicle, police found around 1.7 grams of methamphetamine. However, impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The man was served and released on scene, Charges include Possession of a Controlled Substance, Drug Paraphernalia, and Obstruction.
