(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A Colorado Springs man has been charged with assault after shooting a dog that initially attacked his pet while on a walk.
Colorado Springs Police and DART officers responded to the reported shooting on Thursday, July 3, around 11:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Nevada Avenue. Upon arrival, they learned the suspect was walking his dog in the parking lot of a hotel when his dog was attacked by another person’s dog.
During the struggle, the owner of the aggressive dog attempted to separate the two dogs. The suspect then removed his gun from his holster and shot the aggressive dog once on its back.
The bullet went through the dog and into the owner’s shin, causing serious bodily injury to the other individual. The dog was euthanized by the Humane Society.
The suspect, Wyatt Bonner, was charged with Second Degree Assault and taken to the Criminal Justice Center.
