CSPD: Man who punched officer arrested for theft, assault

(OLD COLORADO CITY, Colo.) — The Colorado Springs Police Department arrested a 39-year-old man after he attempted to escape authorities and punched an officer in the face.

During the early morning hours on Friday, March 28, CSPD officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the area of the 2300 block of West Monument Street, near Thorndale Park in Old Colorado City. Officers located an associated occupied car as described by the reporting party and found it was a stolen vehicle.

Officers attempted to arrest the occupant of the car, but he resisted arrest and attempted to escape. CSPD officers also tried to tase, OC spray, and subdue the suspect, but he continued to resist arrest and try to escape. During the attempted arrest, the suspect hit an officer in the face with a closed fist. No officer was seriously injured.

Eventually, officers were able to gain control of the suspect, and he was taken into custody. He was arrested on several charges, including Assault on a Peace Officer, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Resisting Arrest.
