CSPD: Off-campus shooting caused police presence near school

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A shooting in southern Colorado Springs caused a large police presence at Sierra High School on Wednesday, March 12, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD said that on Wednesday, at around 1:30 p.m., police got several reports of shots fired near the area of Astrozon and South Academy Boulevards north of Hancock Expressway. When officers arrived, they determined a disturbance had taken place near the location, and at least one person was suspected of shooting at an occupied car. The car was hit, but CSPD said no occupants were injured.

The shooting was witnessed by a number of Sierra High School students who were off campus for lunch. CSPD said this caused a large police presence at the school. CSPD reiterated that the shooting did not happen on the Sierra High School campus.
