(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that on Tuesday, Dec. 31, investigators with the Metro Burglary Unit discovered the location of a known prolific burglary and auto theft suspect and conducted surveillance near his home, leading to an arrest.
An operation was launched to arrest the suspect with the assistance of the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU), K9 Unit, Drone Unit, and Motor Vehicle Theft Unit.
According to CSPD, the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Ryan Vigil, was seen leaving his home in the 5000 block of El Camino Drive, near North Union Boulevard and North Academy Boulevard, and walking to a stolen vehicle stashed in a nearby apartment complex parking lot.
CSPD said that when TEU attempted to contact Vigil, he tried to run but was taken down by a police K9. Vigil was arrested on felony warrants including burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. He was also booked on new charges, including motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest, and obstruction.
According to CSPD, the suspect was arrested last month for another motor vehicle theft but ran from police during that incident as well.
