(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Sunday, July 14, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a shooting in the 300 block of West Bijou Street, just west of I-25, when a man armed with a hammer had a confrontation with security guards, leading to two injured.

According to CSPD, around 4 a.m., officers found that the suspect allegedly had broken into several businesses. Security guards at one location reportedly attempted to stop the suspect, who was armed with a hammer. The suspect was said to have attacked the security guard with the hammer and injured them.

CSPD reported that another security guard then confronted the suspect who advanced with the hammer. The security officer fired his gun, striking the suspect, according to CSPD.

The injured security guard was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. The suspect suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and will be transported to the Criminal Justice Center after treatment. The security officer who fired his gun was uninjured.
