CSPD shares tips to parents to protect their kids online

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is sharing tips for parents for Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

CSPD said Safer Internet Day is to bring awareness to the things parents can do to protect their kids from the dangers of the internet. CSPD said there are many ramifications if something inappropriate does happen with a child, but the best thing to do is prevent it from happening in the first place.

CSPD advises parents of a few ways to protect their children:

Know how to set up their children’s devices.

Stay up to date on current trends, dangers, and age-appropriate content.

Balance safety with fostering digital independence.

Approve apps and games, and discuss the reasons behind the parents’ decision about an app.

Restrict access to inappropriate content.

Talk with their children about the dangers of the internet and foster an environment for the child to approach a parent if something does happen.

More information can be found on CSPD’s website along with resources to help parents protect their children from internet dangers.
