(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a theft suspect after he attempted to reach for a gun.
CSPD reported that on Tuesday, June 17, at around 9 a.m., a call was received from a business in the 3000 block of Mallard Drive, near Fountain Boulevard, about a theft that had just taken place. At 9:46 a.m., officers located the suspects, one of them ran away, and the other fought with officers as they attempted to arrest him.
According to CSPD, while the officers had the suspect pinned to the ground, he “actively” tried to reach for a handgun that was in a front pocket. Police arrested 40-year-old Anthony Miranda, who was on parole and had a history that included assault on a peace officer. CSPD said he will be charged with Attempted Assault on a Peace Officer, Theft, and Weapons charges.
The other suspect was released pending further investigation.
