CSPD: Two children safe after being barricaded inside Colorado Springs home with suspect

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Two children are safe after police said they were barricaded inside a home in the Stratmoor area with a suspect wanted on felony charges.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), law enforcement with CSPD and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) were in the area of Burnham Street, northeast of the South Academy Boulevard/I-25 interchange, to try and capture a suspect wanted on felony charges.

CSPD said once law enforcement was on scene, the suspect barricaded himself in the house with two young children. Shortly after 9 a.m., a shelter-in-place order was issued by EPSO.

CSPD said officers and deputies worked for hours to de-escalate the situation, and the suspect peacefully surrendered shortly after 12:45 p.m. The shelter-in-place order was then lifted around 1:20 p.m.
