CSPD: Victim of fatal stabbing by roommate identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of a victim who was fatally stabbed on Feb. 4, before his roommate allegedly confessed when calling 911.

According to CSPD, officers originally responded to a reported stabbing just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in the 800 block of East Boulder Street, in the Middle Shooks Run neighborhood. The person who called 911, 21-year-old Jason Crade-Fontana, allegedly said he had stabbed his roommate.

When officers arrived, they found a man dead inside the home. Crade-Fontana was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on a charge of first degree murder.

On Feb. 6, the El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as 34-year-old Thomas Woodard. While the coroner’s office will determine the official cause and manner of death, Woodard’s case is being investigated as a homicide.

CSPD said this is the eighth homicide in Colorado Springs in 2025. At the same time in 2024, there had been one homicide.
