DENVER (KDVR) — The University of Colorado Buffaloes are heading to Texas for their first bowl game in years, and they brought along one of their longest-supporting fans.
The 100-year-old superfan, Peggy Coppom, cheered on the Buffs with her twin sister since they were 15 years old. The pair, known by fans as “the twins” were season ticket holders since 1958. While Coppom’s sister, Betty Hoover, passed in 2020, Coppom continued to attend the games as one of the Buffs’ biggest fans.
Coppom has only missed a handful of games in over 60 years, even attending the season opener after recently breaking her femur. While Peggy missed a game this season, she’s not missing the Buffs’ first bowl game since 2020 — even if it isn’t in Colorado.
Earlier this season, head coach Deion Sanders guaranteed Coppom a spot at the Alamo Bowl as well as a private plane to take her to Texas, and he wasn’t kidding.
On Thursday, the Buffs posted photos from on a charter plane heading to the bowl game.
After arriving in Texas, the Buffs have featured the fan on their social media, showing Coppom in a limo greeting the team.
“We had one goal in mind, we weren’t talking about championships, we weren’t talking about how many games we were going to win, all were focused on is getting Ms. Peggy to a bowl,” said Sanders at a rally.
Meanwhile, the crowd chants “Peggy, Peggy, Peggy,” in honor of her attendance.
The Buffaloes are in San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MT, in which they are considered the home team against the Brigham Young University Cougars.
