Dad cycling across U.S. for charity stops in Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A devoted dad biking across the United States to raise funds for charity cycled through Colorado Springs on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Jeff Bekos began his solo trip on July 29 in Irvine, California, and plans to finish his journey in Philadelphia on Oct. 14. He planned the ride to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which helped his family spend time with their daughter Hailey, who required a lengthy hospital stay after a sudden medical emergency.

On Wednesday, Bekos stopped by the RMHC of Southern Colorado, and explained why this trip is so close to his heart.

“We thought Hailey was going to die,” said Bekos. “And so we’re just thankful that… she’s thriving today. But to see some of the kids that are going through some horrible things and the families that are just devastated by the illness of their child, I mean, it just brings back a lot of memories. But we just have to help each other. We’re all in this world together and we just have to help.”

If you would like to help Bekos out on his journey, you can donate to One Dad’s Mission, or directly to the Ronald McDonald House.

Bekos also said the charity is always looking for volunteers to give back to the community.
