DENVER (KDVR) — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration took three people with possible ties to a Mexican drug cartel into custody on Wednesday.
Weld County Road 37 was closed in the early morning as the DEA and nearby police departments searched a home across from the Lochbuie Police Department for several hours.
The DEA told FOX31’s Jim Hooley three male suspects with potential ties to a Mexican drug cartel were taken into custody with a warrant out of Denver. The suspects were allegedly involved in the sale and possible distribution of fentanyl and face charges related to drug trafficking.
“Up here, just today, we’ve ended up apprehending numerous individuals who have been under investigation for months. One of the key things is it’s not just drug trafficking. We’ve seized rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition today just in this location,” said agent David Olesky with the DEA.
The DEA said the investigation was part of DEA’s months-long drug manufacturing ring investigation which it said was linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The DEA was joined by Lochbuie and Denver police departments as well as Adams and Weld sheriff’s offices.
DEA cracks down on raids across Denver metro
This is one of several DEA activities around the Denver metro area recently.
The Lochbuie house operation happened just hours after the DEA took a suspect with potential ties to the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, into custody in the Denver area.
On Sunday, the DEA raided a “makeshift nightclub” associated with the Venezuelan gang in Adams County. ICE detained 49 people, of those, the DEA said 41 were living in the country illegally and many were connected to TdA.
The DEA also took two men who were “in the U.S. illegally” into custody in southeast Denver on Monday after officers seized approximately 130,000 fentanyl pills, along with other drugs. Officials said the two people arrested are part of the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels.
