The game had previously been listed as one of five that had the potential to be played as a standalone game on the Saturday before the usual Sunday games of Week 17, according to the Broncos organization.

The announcement means the Broncos will play their fourth standalone game of the season with previous meetings against the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Chargers all designated as standalone games.

The game versus the Bengals is a critical matchup in determining seeding for the NFL Playoffs with every win in the last few weeks integral to the Broncos’ chances of locking down a playoff spot as the team hovers around the threshold to get into the post-season.

The Chargers are hot on the heels of the Broncos and sit at 8-6, compared to the Broncos record of 9-5. As it stands the Broncos occupy the sixth spot in the AFC and have a 91% chance of making the post-season and the Chargers occupy the seventh spot and have an 87% chance of making the post-season.

The Broncos will take on the Bengals on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in an away game at the Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.
