Dog found wandering around elementary school

(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said a senior dog that was found wandering around an elementary school recently was thankfully found before she was roped into a surprise spelling test.

HSPPR shared the story of Grandma Helen, a 12-year-old dog who was found wandering around an elementary school by a teacher. The teacher contacted Animal Law Enforcement, which was able to take Grandma Helen to a shelter. Grandma Helen, at her age, was not suited for sidestepping dodgeballs at recess, but for being a tenured professor who naps through faculty meetings, according to HSPPR.

HSPPR said when Helen was brought into the shelter, they learned she had a cleft lip and nose, and that it was likely that way from birth. The cleft lip and nose didn’t cause her pain or trouble eating, though.

While Grandma Helen may have wandered into an elementary school, HSPPR said she is not interested in recess, hopscotch, or story circle time, but that she is more of a curl-up-with-a-good-book type.

“But most importantly, senior dogs like Grandma Helen don’t belong wandering school campuses looking for love. They deserve to be adored, cherished, and cared for every single day,” writes HSPPR.

If this old girl’s lifestyle sounds good to you, she is still available for adoption at the link above.
