Dog runs from house fire, later reunited with family

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said a dog rescued by Animal Law Enforcement (ALE) was reunited with her owner after running from a house fire miles away on Sunday, March 24.

According to HSPPR, while heading to a call ALE Officer Ridley saw a seemingly lost dog lying down on the side of the road. Two people were trying to catch the dog, so Officer Ridley pulled over to see if he could help.

Officer Ridley reported the dog seemed exhausted, heavily panting, and did not want to move.

With the help of the two good Samaritans, Officer Ridley was able to leash the dog and load her into the ALE truck. Once she was safe, the dog, later identified as Nola, was scanned for a microchip. HSPPR learned her name and found she was adopted from HSPPR in 2020.

Officer Ridley gave the owner a call, learning that she had escaped from a house fire off of Vista Del Tierra Drive near Dublin Boulevard in northeast Colorado Springs.

Officer Ridley assured the family she was safe and unharmed and that he would bring her to them.

On Monday, March 25, FOX21 went back to the neighborhood where the fire happened and spoke with a woman named Madison Rose, who said Nola was her mom’s dog and that ALE had told them she was found at Research Parkway and Scarborough Drive, several miles from home.

“She ran quite a bit in a very short period of time,” said Rose who expressed relief that Nola was back home and doing well. “It is a devastating situation, but we are happy we could reunite Nola and her family so they could all be together during this difficult time,” wrote HSPPR.
