(COLORADO SPRINGS) — 23 businesses have closed in Downtown Colorado Springs this year, though some have been replaced with new businesses thanks to Downtown Development Authority (DDA) grants.
If you felt like a lot of transition happened in the Downtown area in 2024, you’d be correct. 23 businesses closed their doors this year and 29 others opened them. Some of the closures have been attributed to fires, financial strain, legal issues, lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
FOX21 News reached out to the Downtown Partnership for a full picture of the Downtown business scene, which provided some context for a lot of the closures as well as what new business replaced some of them.

The Downtown Partnership also addressed some temporary closures and relocations, such as ICONS, which recently reopened in a new space on Kiowa Street after a December 2023 fire damaged the previous location. Yobel/The Look Up Gallery was damaged in the same fire, though the Downtown Partnership said it reopened as a holiday pop-up which will reopen permanently in the pop-up space once improvements are complete.
Solar Roast Coffee has been temporarily closed due to damage from the same October 2024 fire that closed Bingo Burger, though the Downtown Partnership said it is expected to reopen in late winter or early spring of 2025.
