(COLORADO) — A program in Colorado is offering and reminding community members of critical energy assistance services as the state braces for a dangerous cold snap set to begin on Friday, Jan. 17.
Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) offers critical services for income-qualified households in Colorado related to heating emergencies.
“No Colorado family should have to choose between staying warm and meeting other basic needs, especially during dangerous cold snaps,” said Jennifer Gremmert, CEO of Energy Outreach Colorado. “We want everyone to know that help is available – whether you’re facing a utility disconnection or dealing with a failed heating system in sub-zero temperatures.”
There are two programs income-qualified homes can qualify for:
Emergency bill payment assistance to prevent utility disconnections: Call 1-866-HEAT-HELP (1-866-432-8435)
Rapid response emergency heating system repair and replacement for LEAP-approved households: Call 1-855-4MY-HEAT (1-855-469-4328)
Colorado homeowners who are served by investor-owned utilities like Xcel Energy and Black Hills Energy are protected by cold-weather rules that restrict disconnections when temperatures are forecasted to drop below 32 degrees in the next 24 hours.
