Employee allegedly armed with knife surrenders after hours-long standoff at Colorado Springs business

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An employee allegedly armed with a knife at a business in Colorado Springs was arrested after an hours-long standoff on Thursday, May 29.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), just after 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the business, located in the 5700 block of Stetson Hills Boulevard near the intersection with North Powers Boulevard, on reports of an active disturbance involving an employee. The man was allegedly armed with a knife and making threats, while also displaying erratic behavior, “possibly due to a mental health crisis.”

When officers arrived, the business was evacuated, and just the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Nathan Davis, remained inside.

According to CSPD, Davis refused to leave after he was given multiple orders to do so and reportedly became increasingly agitated. He then allegedly began to damage property inside the business and made threats toward officers, police said.

“A crisis negotiator was able to contact the suspect via phone. After an approximate three-hour standoff, the suspect exited the business and was taken into custody without further incident by members of the Tactical Enforcement Unit,” CSPD wrote.

Davis was later booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on charges that include Felony Criminal Mischief (Damage to Property), Obstruction, and Violation of a Protection Order.
