EPSO finds skeletal remains believed to be missing woman

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — On Tuesday, April 1, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) conducted a search along Fountain Creek for an elderly woman who had been missing since October 17, 2024, and found skeletal remains that are believed to be hers.

According to EPSO, the Mounted Unit, Detectives, and El Paso County Search and Rescue coordinated to search for 76-year-old Bernice Moorehead in the area of Pinello ranch in unincorporated El Paso County after items were found nearby that were believed to be her personal belongings.

During the search, law enforcement found skeletal remains along the creek, just north of Pinello Ranch. Based on additional evidence found at the scene, the remains are believed to be Moorehead’s, though the El Paso County Coroner’s Office will officially identify them and determine the cause and manner of death.

EPSO has been in contact with Moorehead’s family and extends heartfelt condolences.
