EPSO: FLOCK cameras lead to arrest of attempted murder suspect

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has confirmed the Sept. 12 arrest of a man who is suspected of attempted murder.

Minutes before 6 a.m. on Sept. 12, EPSO was given an alert from the FLOCK security camera system about a black Toyota Prius connected to a felony warrant traveling near Highway 85 and Main Street. This Prius with Colorado license plate number CPQA40 was associated with 41-year-old Michael McGinnis, an attempted murder suspect.

Acting on the FLOCK alert, Fountain Police Department (FPD) officers found McGinnis’ Prius in a Walmart parking lot. After confirming the car, officers performed a non-contact block to ensure public safety while bringing in McGinnis, whom they deemed a high-risk suspect.

McGinnis complied with commands and was arrested without incident. Afterward, he was transferred into the custody of the Colorado Springs Police Department. On Sept. 22, his bond was set at $100,000 as he awaits an Oct. 1 first appearance before a judge.

“This case demonstrates why our investment in FLOCK Safety cameras is vital. These cameras provide real-time intelligence, enabling deputies and our law enforcement partners to respond rapidly, protect the public, and remove dangerous individuals from the streets. I extend my gratitude to Fountain Chief of Police Mark Cristiani and Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez for their ongoing partnership and unwavering commitment to public safety efforts in the Pikes Peak region. Together, we are building stronger, safer communities for the citizens we serve.”
