(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said deputies responded to an apartment in unincorporated El Paso County for an incident that involved over a dozen people in the overnight hours of Friday, Sept. 12.
On Friday, at around 2:30 a.m., deputies received a call about a large fight inside an apartment in the 1600 block of Hampton South near South Academy Boulevard in the Stratmoor Hills neighborhood.
When deputies arrived on scene, they encountered nearly a dozen people engaged in a heated argument in the parking lot, according to EPSO. Once deputies restored order outside, they were told there were victims inside the apartment.
When deputies entered the apartment, they found multiple people with injuries varying from minor to serious. EPSO said deputies’ investigation determined one woman, identified as 18-year-old Aolani Barnes, and three minors had allegedly forced their way into the apartment and attacked those inside.
Neighbors quickly intervened, entering the apartment and forcing the suspects outside, where deputies initially made contact upon their arrival. Responders from Stratmoor Hills Fire Department provided medical care at the scene before the victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Barnes was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail and is facing the following charges:
First-Degree Burglary
Conspiracy to Commit Second-Degree Assault
Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
Third-Degree Assault
EPSO said Barnes was held on a $5,000 bond and has since posted bond and was released. The investigation is ongoing.
