(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Due to a boom in population and an increased demand for sheriff’s office services in northeast El Paso County, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) announced on Tuesday, April 9, that the El Paso County Board of Commissioners has approved $15 million in financing for a new substation in the Falcon area.
“I am excited to see this financing approved and eager to take the next steps towards building an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office substation in eastern unincorporated El Paso County,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joe Roybal.
Data sent by EPSO shows that the population in El Paso County has grown by well over 100,000 since 2010 and in unincorporated El Paso County, the population has grown by 40,000. Priority One and Two calls for service, which include things like domestic violence and assault, have increased by over 50% in some regions.
“El Paso County consists of more than 2,100 square miles, and the majority of the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction is located east of Colorado Springs,” said Sheriff Roybal. “This substation will allow our patrol deputies assigned near this area, to spend more time responding to public safety needs in the district, eliminating travel time to the Office of the Sheriff for daily briefings and reducing trips to the El Paso County Jail to book arrestees.”
A map sent by EPSO shows the new substation will be located in the Falcon area, near Meridian Road and Stapleton Drive. EPSO did not provide a date of opening for the substation.
“I thank the Board of County Commissioners for their confidence in this project and will keep the community apprised as we move forward with this much-needed and anticipated facility,” said Sheriff Roybal.
