EPSO searching for suspect who allegedly attacked victim with axe

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) is looking for a man who allegedly assaulted someone with an axe in the Stratmoor neighborhood on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

According to EPSO, deputies responded to a report of an assault just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday to the 1100 block of Denise Drive, northeast of I-25 and South Academy Boulevard. The person who called 911 reported that someone had been attacked with an axe, and that the suspect and victim knew each other.

EPSO said as deputies were responding, the suspect left the scene on a bicycle. When deputies arrived, they treated the victim who had suffered injuries that appeared to be from being hit with the blunt end of an axe. The axe was found on scene, EPSO said.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, which EPSO said appear to be non-life threatening.

The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Steven Barcelona. EPSO said deputies along with officers from the Fountain Police Department conducted an extensive search of the Stratmoor Valley neighborhood using K9 units and drones but were unable to locate Barcelona.

EPSO asks that if you see Barcelona, contact 911 and do not approach him. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
