(SIMLA, Colo.) — According to Elizabeth Fire Rescue, evacuation orders are in effect for the town of Simla.
Elizabeth Fire Rescue described the fire as a “large wildfire,” and said it is currently threatening 500-700 acres. A shelter has been established at the Elbert County Fairgrounds, 95 Ute Avenue, Kiowa, CO.
The Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE) has also issued an Air Quality Advisory for Elbert County and northeastern El Paso County.
ORIGINAL STORY: CSFD assists with wildland fire in Simla
THURSDAY 3/30/2023 4:23 p.m.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is sending aid to a wildland fire burning in Simla, about 14 miles northeast of Calhan.
CSFD tweeted about the fire just after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30. CSFD said they sent two brush trucks, one engine, and a Battalion Chief after a mutual aid request.
A Red Flag warning remains in effect for much of Southern Colorado, including Simla, until 8 p.m. Thursday due to high winds and low humidity.
