(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Evergreen Cemetery is hosting a volunteer cleaning and repair workday on Saturday, July 13 sponsored by Atlas Preservation, to clean and repair gravestones.
Evergreen Cemetery was selected for Atlas Preservation’s 48 State Tour, aiming to teach the public techniques for properly clearing and repairing gravestones. The event is free and open to the public.
“It is important to honor and preserve the memories of those who have passed, and this event will help us do just that. We appreciate the dedication and expertise that Atlas Preservation brings to this important work, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on this historic cemetery in the heart of Colorado Springs,” said Cheryl Godbout, Cemetery Administrator for the City of Colorado Springs.
The event has no limit on the number of attendees and participants and will run on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. After the cleaning demonstration workshop, participants will be encouraged to “adopt” a gravestone and perform the clearing process.
All equipment required to perform the cleaning will be provided. Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable clothing and bring food and water.
