(PIKES PEAK, Colo.) — Pikes Peak Highway is still partially closed to drivers after a May snowstorm rolled through Southern Colorado and coated America’s Mountain with more than 30 inches of snow, according to the latest totals from the National Weather Service on Thursday, May 8.
FOX21 News called to check in on the conditions, and according to the latest message, as of 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Pikes Peak Highway was open 13 out of the 19 miles up.
“Unfortunately, due to excessive amounts of snow, well over two feet, we will not be open to the summit this week,” according to the message.
On Wednesday, May 7, the Pikes Peak Highway crew was seen hard at work clearing the road for drivers. “No one goes harder than the Pikes Peak Highway crew, especially when a storm rolls through,” a post read on the Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain Facebook page.
